The United Way of Bruce Grey’s Attack Coin Can Campaign has so far raised around $2,000 going into the playoffs.
Fundraising Champion Kristy Andre says this annual fundraiser, which supports its backpack program, collects a dollar from participants for every goal the Attack score during their away games on Bearadio on 560 CFOS — which is supported by Bear Wheel and Brake Service.
Andre says they have not collected all of the funds raised for this year as some are following the team into the playoffs, but so far the Attack have scored 116 away game goals.
Andre says this is one of the organizations longest running fundraisers.
“Every year it is quite successful,” says Andre. “We have actual cans that we hand out. So individuals or businesses can participate in this and it is a great way just to support our local hockey team because this area is really great for supporting them and also supporting our backpack program for the United Way Bruce Grey.”
Andre says this annual event has raised $13,000 altogether.
There is still a chance to raise more funds for the campaign, as the Attack is set to play away games during the playoffs on March 31, April 2, April 7, and April 11.
