Bruce County is taking time to thank community members who donated toward last winter’s Dorell Young Christmas Program for 2022.
Last winter’s campaign raised $21,000.
Deputy CAO Christine MacDonald explains, “The funds that are used to provide gifts — which are often toys, books, and articles of clothing for children and teenagers that are served by Bruce County Human Services department.”
The funding and material donations are earmarked for families and caregivers with lower incomes who struggle, especially during the holiday season.
The campaign strives to support inclusion and relies entirely on donations.
The money raised helped 201 families, including 379 children.
The program is named after Dorrell Young, who was an employee of Bruce County Human Services.
It’s been raising funds and collecting gift donations for families at Christmastime for the past 20 years.
MacDonald says that they’ll be looking for community involvement in the campaign later this year, including through donations, sponsorships, and volunteers for 2023.
