Meaford Council is going to consider awarding a $79,000 tender for the construction of an accessible ramp at Market Square.
A report is set to come to council on March 27 from Treasurer and Director of Financial Services Valerie Manning. It recommends awarding the tender for the project to Seeley and Arnill Construction.
The report says as the current access points between Sykes Street and the Market Square do not comply with current accessibility standards, staff have looking into opportunities to fund a new ramp between the two areas.
In 2021, the municipality received a nearly $59,000 federal grant from the Enabling Accessibility Funding stream, and under the terms for the grant, the project must be completed no later than the end of September.
Given how construction costs have increased since 2021, staff are recommending continuing with the project and funding the difference from the accessibility reserve.
The design of the new ramp was completed in 2020, and the report adds its design will provide the benchmark for any future street designs in the immediate area.
Council will be reviewing this item at its meeting today at 1 p.m.
