Cases of pertussis are on the rise in Huron and Perth counties.
Public health officials say the rise is in line with other health regions in Ontario, with 21 cases confirmed in Huron-Perth so far in 2023.
That compares to three cases in 2022.
Pertussis, also called whooping cough, is a highly contagious bacterial illness.
Health officials say vaccination is the best way to prevent pertussis, with the vaccine part of Ontario’s publicly-funded vaccine schedule and is available through family doctors and public health.
