The Town of Caledon is testing deceased geese for Avian Flu.
Municipal Law Enforcement is following up on reports of dead geese in a stormwater pond in Bolton, and residents are also being told to take precautions as the birds are tested.
The testing is being carried out at the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative.
According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, wild birds around the world are natural carriers of avian influenza viruses, and the town says that the spread of the illness to humans is extremely rare.
The Town says that there are no indications of a risk to the general public, although they are saying to avoid handling sick or dead wild birds, and pets should be kept away from possibly affected wildlife.
