The 35th annual Owen Sound Salmon Spectacular derby is heading north, allowing anglers to enter in the fish they caught at Lion’s Head.
The news broke at its conservation dinner and auction meeting in Owen Sound.
Association Derby Co-Chair Chris Geberdt says the move is to expand the range of the event in response to demand by anglers in the Lion’s Head area.
The derby, which attracts anglers from across Ontario and the United States, has in recent years included the waters of Georgian Bay from Colpoy’s Bay, to Delphi Point near Collingwood.
“The new rule expands the range of the derby to the north. The Salmon Spectacular is the largest event of the year in Grey-Bruce. Average attendance ranges between 40 and 50 thousand at the giant tent on the Owen Sound waterfront which is the derby headquarters,” says the release
The derby this year is running from Aug. 25 to Sept. 3.
