Lakeshore Women’s Triathlon moving to Saugeen Shores
The Lakeshore Women’s Triathlon (formerly Kincardine Women’s Triathlon) will be moving to Saugeen Shores for its 2023 race scheduled for August 12, 2023.
While the race has been hosted by Kincardine since 2001, the race was unable to secure road closures for its usual bike route along Huron Terrace due to the construction on Queen Street this summer.
While a number of alternative routes were proposed, a mutually agreeable route was unable to be found that would have suited requirements for the municipality and the race.
“We are disappointed to be leaving Kincardine, but excited to start fresh in Saugeen Shores,” said Race Director Sarah Foster. “We are very thankful to Saugeen Shores that they were willing to ensure the Women’s Triathlon continues on.
“I have no doubt racers will be excited by the new route we have planned, which has a breathtaking view of Lake Huron on both the run and bike route.”
The triathlon will take place at the Main Beach, with the cycle heading out to North Shore Road and Concession 10, and the run happening on the path along North Shore Rd.
Registration for the race will open on March 18 at 10 a.m.
The Kincardine Women’s Triathlon was founded by Janet Bannerman who, after attending her first triathlon, thought a race like that would be a good fit in Kincardine. She saw it not just for the potential it had in empowering women who would compete in the race, but also saw it as a way to give back to the Kincardine community.
The race has run every year since 2001 except for 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In that time, the race has had more than 7,000 participants, and offering many economic benefits to the community in which the race operates. The Women’s Triathlon has donated more than $100,000 back to local non-profit organizations in Kincardine.
The Lakeshore Women’s Triathlon is proud to be an all inclusive race, welcoming women of all abilities to come and try a tri.
More details about the upcoming race can be found on our website: www.lakeshoretri.com

Hunsburger Honoured
from omha.net
As part of OMHA Thank a Volunteer Week, the recipients of two awards have been announced in recognition of their years of volunteerism in minor hockey: 2023 OMHA Patricia Hartley Administrators Award winner Jamie Hunsburger (Kincardine) and 2023 OMHA Excellence in Development Award winner Derek Fitzmorris (Kent).
2023 OMHA PATRICIA HARTLEY ADMINISTRATORS AWARD – JAMIE HUNSBURGER
Jamie has been involved with minor hockey over 20 years as a parent and team staff member as well has filling a variety of hockey executive and volunteer roles in the community, always ensuring that despite any obstacles which may present themselves. He works tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure an understanding of the rules and options available to allow children to enjoy the sport of hockey.
He has been a constant advocate of improvements and additions to our local facilities made many a presentation on behalf of minor hockey to the local municipality asking for funding and making recommendations for changes to improve the experience for all.
Jamie represents the part of hockey that few people realize is such an essential part of the sport. It’s not flashy or glamorous but without all the hard work Jamie does we would be lost before each hockey season even begins. He oversees rosters, permits, rules of operations and presides over our minor hockey ‘flock’ to ensure we do everything by the book and have all the tools available to us to run a successful organization.
His motto has always been “hockey only runs when many hands do the work”. Jamie and his family truly represent what a full commitment to minor hockey is all about. Without the skill, knowledge and patience of someone like Jamie a large number of players within the community of Kincardine would never have been able to reach their full potential and enjoy the sport that we all love.
