The Hockey For Hospice fundraising game between the Owen Sound Attack and the Saginaw Spirit has so far raised about $19,000 for the Chapman House.
Grey Bruce Hospice Donor Relations Coordinator Amy McConachie says the game on Feb. 18 at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre has helped, and is continuing to raise funds for the organization for its operational costs.
While the game ended in a 3-2 loss for the Attack, McConachie says it was a very successful night with a number of fundraising opportunities during the game, including a bucket pass and silent auction.
“I don’t have the total as of yet. I was told before I left that it was the most successful bucket pass we had ever done, I believe it was over $9,000,” says McConachie. “You can bid on the Leaf’s tickets and the airplane ride from Owen Sound to Tobermory, that is on until the end of the week.”
The jersey auction, which closed Jan. 19, raised just over $10,000, with the jersey from Colby Barlow selling for $1,550.
McConachie adds the auction also featured various pieces of art, board games, gift certificates, and a motorcycle.
McConachie says they did not have a goal going into the game as this was the first year they organized the charity game with the Attack.
“They made it very easy and accommodating and wanted to help us with everything, it was a wonderful partnership,” says McConachie.
McConachie adds they would love to do this fundraising event again next year if able.
