Huron County Council is advocating for a review, and improvements to the Cannabis Act.
The council is making the move after receiving correspondence from other municipalities in the past few months that were calling for better guidelines for cannabis farming and retail – namely based on odours from the farming process in proximity to residential areas, and also for retail regulations.
Some municipalities were raising concerns regarding the clientele of cannabis retailers, and their behaviour in local commercial areas.
The County of Huron, along with other jurisdictions, want to call on federal and provincial organizations to review policies and come up with better guidelines and to have in-depth discussions about the industry as a whole.
Cannabis was legalized by the federal government in October 2018, and advocates say that a review is warranted for their concerns.
