The Alzheimer Society of Grey Bruce is holding a new soup competition fundraiser this weekend in Owen Sound.
Community Development and Engagement Coordinator Michelle Fleming says the society is holding its first annual Soup’s On event on Jan. 28 at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
It will feature 13 local vendors and restaurants who will compete in different categories.
“Either the best creamy, the best vegetarian or a best hearty, and then the people that will come through the doors to attend the event will purchase ticket tasting coupons and they will be able to sample the soups in four ounce servings. They will also, with their booklet of tickets get a ballot to cast for the people’s choice awards,” says Fleming.
In addition, Fleming adds they also have a silent auction which went live Jan. 20 and will end Jan. 30, and plans to bring the auction to the event this weekend.
She says among the items up for grabs include restaurant coupons, merchandise, jewelry, various experiences, and hotel stays.
“We are looking to raise $15,000 with our auction, and another $35,000 at our event,” says Fleming.
She says the funds raised will go to support their programs which assist the over 1,000 people who utilize their services.
More details on the event can be found on the Alzheimer Society’s website here.
