Owen Sound Events and Activation Coordinator Jen Wright says they are looking for more volunteers to help out with Hockey Day in Canada coming to the city.
Hockey Day in Canada, running Jan. 18 to the 21 at Harrison Park and the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre, will be hosting a number of games and activities, including a Stanley Cup Parade to Harrison Park, the Josh Armstrong Memorial Road Hockey Tournament, and a banquet.
Wright says they have about 250 volunteer time slots to fill, and are currently at 76 per cent of meeting their needs.
She adds some of the responsibilities of the volunteers include assisting with the women’s hockey games occurring at the Bayshore on the Saturday.
“We are looking for parking volunteers at Harrison Park on Saturday Jan. 21. We are also still looking for some volunteers for banquet set up on the Thursday, and there are still a few time slots left open on the Wednesday as well for different and various activities that are happening in Owen Sound for Hockey Day,” says Wright.
She adds this will also be a good opportunity for teenagers to earn their needed volunteer hours and are also willing to work with them for specific hours.
“The community and the area surrounding Owen Sound has embraced this with open arms,” says Wright. “People have been out purchasing tickets, a lot of the events are already sold out, so that just goes to say how much our community supports hockey as well as Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada.”
