Saugeen Shores police have charged a man with assaulting police.
They say in a Facebook post, officers were at a residence in Port Elgin assisting an individual, but during the interaction, for what police say are reasons unknown, the individual became assaultive and threatened officers with a five foot long wooden bannister by swinging it at them.
Police say, after a brief struggle with officers, a 41 year old Port Elgin man was taken into custody. He has been charged with assaulting a police officer with a weapon, weapons dangerous, assault with intent to resist arrest and obstructing police.
Police say the male was released with a future court date.
They note, the involved officers were not injured.
