United Way of Perth-Huron
The United Way of Perth-Huron has reached a milestone in their 2022-2023 fundraising campaign.
Officials say the organization has achieved 50 per cent of their goal, with a total of $1,184,389 raised so far toward the campaign goal of $2,289.671.
As UWPH celebrates reaching half its campaign goal, the organization continues working on addressing what is calls “unignorable” issues, such as homelessness, mental health, and access to services, supporting people in communities across Perth-Huron.
Programs and services UWPH supports include counselling for youth, individuals, families and seniors, shelter for women and their children escaping violence, support and mentorship for youth, transitional housing, the Urgent Needs Fund for people facing pressing financial needs, connection centres to help vulnerable people on their journey out of homelessness and more.
Over the past several months, the United Way’s Social Research and Planning Council provided reports on local housing and homelessness.
The report found the current average house price in the county is $754,828.
Numbers also show that there are currently 169 people in Huron and Goderich who are homeless.
Other information was also shared, including 9% of children in Huron-Perth live in a household struggling to put food on the table.
