Grey and Bruce counties are looking for participants to sit on an action table aimed at crime prevention.
In a joint release from both counties, Community Safety and Well-Being Planning’s (CSWBP) table will bring together people along with members of local police services, municipalities, businesses, educational organizations and community agencies to identifying opportunities for increased awareness, education, and engagement with residents on risks and protection related to crime.
Members of the table will be working towards educating residents by also addressing misconceptions related to crime and social disorder, while also providing evidence-based information on how people understand perceptions of safety. The goal of which, will be sustaining safe communities across the region, while promoting collaborative approaches to enhance planning and preventative strategies for community safety.
The CSWBP is a collaborative venture comprised of representatives from lower-tier municipalities, the counties of Bruce and Grey, police services and police service boards, boards of education, health and social service agencies, and community partners.
The action table is part of phase two of CSWBP and are being identified to address five priority areas, one of which includes crime prevention.
The release says action tables will respond to issues which fall within each priority area by implementing an action plan to identify and track measurable indicators, progress and outcomes.
A community engagement survey identified crime prevention as an area of priority to the CSWBP, ranking third overall. Specifically, breaking and entering, drug trafficking, theft, intimate partner or domestic violence, and human trafficking.
“Members of the crime prevention action table will address these and other aspects of crime prevention through research, education and public outreach, and will work towards collaborative strategies that focus on improving safety and perceptions of safety in our communities,” says the release.
