Goderich council may be looking at procedure by-laws to figure out if and how to change how often they meet, and when they meet.
Mayor Myles Murdock says that meeting on the current schedule of every second Monday can be difficult for staff.
“Meeting every two weeks puts a strain on staff in terms of getting some documents ready, thinking that they need to be ready for the next meeting. Whereas in some cases, it’s very difficult to prepare that document in that time frame.”
The mayor mentioned that because council only meets once during the months of July, August, and December, it may be possible to have town council meet less frequently.
“If we can meet that infrequently at that point, maybe every third week instead of every second week is more practical.”
There were also ideas to change the time of the meeting, from 4pm to 9am, but Mayor Murdock pointed out that may be problematic for senior staff on a Monday morning.
Aside from municipal staff constantly being under pressure, some of the members of council work full-time, and would like to avoid a scheduling conflict.
