A Bracebridge OPP officer faces two assault charges following an investigation by the Province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU).
SIU Director Joseph Martino reports he has reasonable grounds to believe the officer committed criminal offenses in connection with the arrest of a 43-year-old man in Georgian Bay.
On July 10th, 2022, Bracebridge OPP officers were called to the Canadian Pacific Railway yard for a reported trespass and breaking and entering investigation.
Officers located the man believed to be involved near a retail area on Front Street. There was an interaction between the officer and the man. The man was arrested and transported to the hospital where he was diagnosed with serious injuries.
As a result of the SIU investigation, Constable Scott Anthony is charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm and one count of assault with a weapon.
Cst Anthony is required to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at 3 Dominion Street in Bracebridge on December 20th, 2022.
As the matter is before the courts, and in consideration of the fair trial interests of the accused, the SIU will not provide further comment on the investigation.
