The County of Huron received a report from the United Way of Perth-Huron during this week’s council meeting.
Director of the Social Research and Planning Council, Kristen Crane, shared their findings.
The report included updates on housing and homelessness.
The current average house price in the county is $754,828.
Numbers also show that there are currently 169 people in Huron and Goderich who are homeless.
Other information was also shared, including 9% of children in Huron-Perth live in a household struggling to put food on the table.
The report also included was focused on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Indigenous Reconciliation, and showed that 8 in 10 indigenous residents of Perth-Huron report being
discriminated against in the past three years.
The organization was also seeking a contribution of support for $30,000 from the county to be included in the 2023 budget.
That funding would help with community research and programming.
