The Collingwood Downtown Business Improvement Area is looking for an artist for a project in the downtown core.
What started as an idea for an arch over the downtown has changed to a call for public art that will serve as a welcoming landmark which will be installed in in 2023.
A town news release says the public art will be a placemaking piece that engages the community and visitors in the Downtown core and neighborhood, serves as a memorable and welcoming landmark, and evokes a sense of place and source of pride for the community.
The public artwork will be selected through an open, two-stage process. Up to three candidates will be invited by a Selection Team to advance as finalists and present a proposal with an amount of $2500 paid for their participation.
The total artwork budget is $200,000 and includes all fees to consult, collaborate, design, fabricate, transport, install the artwork as well as insurance, travel and other incidental expenses.
