SuperSpiel
The 40th annual Port Elgin SuperSpiel is November 17th-20th.
from Port Elgin SuperSpiel
Since January of 1983, the Port Elgin Curling Club has been the host of Super Spiel. The brain child of Ken Dunlop, Super Spiel has provided a great mix of local teams skipped by the likes of Gary Cobean, Dave Cobean, Steve Gregg, Gary Hamer, Fred Fleet, Ken Dunlop, Al Hutchinson, Paul Godward and Curtis Cassidy, and world class experience and/or world championships. This included Russ Howard, Glen Howard, Ed Werenich, Paul Savage, John Base, Wayne Middaugh, and Olympic silver medalist Mike Harris.
Super Spiel has also had an international flair on more than one occasion. A team from Scotland was here in 1999. The French National team has also been an entrant. This year, we are happy to welcome a team from Japan.
After two years of Covid restrictions, we are excited to be able to provide the great hospitality, food and entertainment for which Super Spiel has become known.
This year’s Super Spiel is the 40th, running November 18-20 at the Port Elgin Curling Club. Eighteen teams will be playing a Triple Knockout format for a $11,100 purse and points to possibly participate in the Ontario Tankard. As you will see below, many of the teams participating in this year’s event were part of the Port Elgin Chrysler ’22 Ontario Tankard presented by Bruce Power last February at the Plex. We are happy to welcome them back to the area and wish all the teams “Good Curling!”
