The province’s Special Investigations Unit has closed its probe into an arrest by Owen Sound Police this past summer, when a 41-year-old man in custody overdosed.
According to the SIU, the man was arrested on July 6 on outstanding warrants and brought to the Owen Sound Police station.
After a bail hearing, he was placed in a cell and eventually officers noticed his condition was deteriorating. They suspected a drug overdose.
Paramedics arrived and took the 41-year-old man to hospital, where he was treated with Narcan and eventually recovered from the overdose.
SIU Director Joseph Martino scrutinized the searches conducted by Owen Sound Police that failed to turn up the drugs on the man in custody. He says there are no reasonable grounds to believe an officer committed an offence.
