Don Tedford, a longtime civil servant in Hanover and a mayoral candidate in South Bruce Peninsula, has died.
A Facebook post from the Tedford campaign says he passed on Saturday, Oct. 15.
Tedford was Director of Development for Hanover, whose department was responsible for reviewing planning and building applications. He also worked part-time recently for South Bruce Peninsula in the capacity of Chief Building Official.
The Tedford campaign published a few words from Hanover’s previous CAO Mike Dunlop a couple of days before he passed. Dunlop, who worked with Tedford for 21 years, says “he is consistently doing what is right and not always easy.”
The Town of South Bruce Peninsula issued a statement: “Mr. Tedford was a dedicated and well-respected civil servant … Don’s knowledge and kind spirit will be missed by many.”
In a separate notice, the town says the voting ballots for the 2022 municipal election cannot be revised at this late stage in the process and Tedford’s name is included on the ballot.
“As Mr. Tedford’s passing does not create an acclamation for mayor, the election will continiue with the remaining two candidates,” the South Bruce Peninsula notice explains.
