1) Why are you running?
A number of residents asked that I run due to my background and experience with legislation and various government officials. They felt that certain aspects of the municipal governance were not fulfilling their obligations under the Municipal Act or other legislation and they also felt someone with an ability to work with government officials who knew and understood the “rules” would better reflect the needs of the community.
2) Are there any steps municipalities can take to help ease cost of living concerns?
As a government we can reduce the amount of taxation and fees within our communities. We can also look toward the Federal and Provincial governments and tap into funding for affordable housing and/or any subsidies for various other infrastructure. We, as Councilors, need to understand that if our residents must tighten their belts, we also need to this, as well.
3) What are your ideas for economic development in your municipality?
We need to expand our economic horizons, in the Town of the Blue Mountains. We should look to bringing in a business park, office space and more commercial zoning. We should also be seeking integration with Grey County’s economic development structure to diversify our economic drivers.
4) Do you think the municipality has a role to play in the recruitment and retention of physicians and other healthcare workers?
With the increase of interest rates, the pricing of housing is decreasing. That said there is a need, at least in our community, for offices and a larger medical footprint. With the Town of the Blue Mountains being such a beautiful place and having such an inviting community, once here most do not want to leave.
