1) Why are you running?
Hanover is my home and I care about what happens here. I feel that often a change in leadership can bring new and fresh ideas. These new ideas can breathe fresh vitality into the town.
2) Are there any steps municipalities can take to ease the cost of living concerns?
Yes and housing is one of the biggest concerns. If a family, or couple, can afford a house, town house or a reasonable apartment then that is a first step. This is where the town can help in making sure that all people in the town can have a place to call home.
3) What are your ideas for economic development in your municipality?
Attracting industry to the town, including manufacturing. The challenge is having serviced land available for a company to locate here. A variety of restaurants is appealing but there is also a need for a higher-end restaurant. Recreation facilities are another that will make the town attractive to new investment. A good employer will want
their workers to enjoy living in our community. What does our town have that would attract people? Community events and celebrations will add to what is here. We have a lot going for this town, let’s build on it.
4) Do you think the municipality has a role to play in the recruitment and retention of physicians and other health care workers?
Yes. Some of the ways the town can help in this are mentioned in the previous question. Other health care workers will include those practising alternative health care. Fostering an atmosphere of respect and co-operation will go a long way for this to happen. Let the people decide their own health care needs.
5) Do you feel Hanover needs to acquire more land in order to grow?
The short answer is yes. The town does have a significant amount of land to the north, but there are two high voltage hydro corridors crossing it. A parking lot could be built underneath but that is all. This makes a severe reduction of the available land. If a manufacturer wanted to locate in Hanover, depending on their land requirements, there
may not be enough land to accommodate it. Expanding the Town’s borders is an important challenge.
