1)Why are you running?
I am running for the deputy mayor role as I feel it is important to offer fresh ideas and perspectives at the County level. The deputy mayor role gives me the opportunity to have input on some of the major issues facing our communities such as housing, planning and the need for a regional approach to address these items.
2) Are there any steps municipalities can take to help ease cost of living concerns?
We certainly can have an impact on the cost of living. We need to constantly review our service offerings and ensure we are providing the services that our residents need and deserve while at the same time keeping taxes at a manageable level. Looking for ways to constantly improve on service delivery models and collaboration between neighbouring municipalities is an effective way to help manage these costs
3) What are your ideas for economic development in your municipality?
For Hanover, our primary need is to expand our borders. First and foremost we need to have the land available to accommodate growth. The municipality then needs to create a community that attracts and retains entrepreneurs and the labour force to supply the demand. A balanced approach that offers attainable housing, inclusion and the amenities that attract young families to our town while at the same time ensuring the needs of our older residents are also met are the key to success.
4) Do you think the municipality has a role to play in the recruitment and retention of physicians and other healthcare workers?
Yes the municipality does play a role in physician and healthcare recruitment and similar to my economic development response we need to create a community that is attractive to young professional families. A community that embraces inclusion and offers the amenities that build a strong sense of belonging are key to this.
5) Do you feel Hanover needs to acquire more land in order to grow?
Absolutely, without the ability to grow we will fail in our efforts to build a better and stronger community. To be able to continue to offer the best core services as well as new services we need to increase our tax base not our tax rates and growth is the best way to accomplish this.
