This one just got away from the Attack.
Marcus Limpar-Lantz and Angus MacDonell scored 1:40 apart early in the third period as the Sarnia Sting rallied from a goal down to beat the Owen Sound Attack 3-2 in Ontario Hockey League action Wednesday night at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
Owen Sound (2-3-0-0) lost its third straight game. Sarnia (4-1-0-0) won its second in a row.
Deni Goure and Tomislav Brennan – who scored his first career OHL goal – supplied the offence for the Attack.
Nolan Burke also scored for Sarnia.
The Attack jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 13:07 of the first period, as Goure hammered a one-time shot off a pass from Cedrick Guindon past Sting netminder Benjamin Gaudreau on a 5-on-3 power play.
Owen Sound ran into some penalty trouble near the end of the first period.
Burke beat Nick Chenard at 18:54 on the power play to tie the game 1-1. Then Matthew Papais and Luc Schweingruber were sent to the box in the final minute of the first.
The Attack penalty kill unit managed to kill off a lengthy 5-on-3 opportunity for Sarnia at the start of the second period.
Then at 8:55, Owen Sound regained the lead. Guindon had the puck behind Sarnia’s net and found Brennan wide open in the slot area with a pass. Brennan fired a shot past Gaudreau’s blocker to make it 2-1.
Sarnia tied the game on the power play at 5:00 of the third, as Limpar-Lantz backhanded a loose puck past Chenard.
A minute and 40 seconds later, Ryan Mast walked in off the right point and fired a shot into traffic. MacDonell deflected it past Chenard to give Sarnia its first lead of the game, 3-2.
Gaudreau held off from there for Sarnia when tested, including denying a Colby Barlow breakaway opportunity. Barlow tried to shoot five-hole and Sarnia’s netminder steered the puck aside.
Sarnia outshot Owen Sound 30-21 while going 2 for 6 on the power play; Owen Sound finished 1 for 6.
Gaudreau made 19 saves in the win, while Chenard stopped 27 taking the loss.
Next up for the Attack is a road game on Friday at Kitchener (0-4-0-0).
