The Avon Maitland District School Board is doing its part to address a provincial shortage of Personal Support Workers (PSW).
Agencies across Ontario have reported a shortage of PSW workers since the pandemic began in 2020.
A state from the Ontario PSW Association says, “the staffing crisis in both long-term and home care was only exacerbated by the pandemic and the need to rebuild this profession has never been greater.”
The AMDSB’s PSW certification program is being offered this fall, providing a total of six Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) credits, including one supervised clinical co-op credit.
School board officials say the $1,500 registration fee will be waived, and credits earned through this program can count towards a high school diploma.
