Huron County council has chosen to send a letter to Health Canada regarding the government’s launch of the Legislative Review of the Cannabis Act.
Past Warden Jim Ginn wanted a letter written to the federal government because of issues that have come up since cannabis was legalized in 2018, namely issues that have come up in towns that have allowed sales within their boundaries.
Other councillors – Myles Murdoch, Bob Fischer, and Bernie McLellan — added their support to the move, saying that there were regulatory issues that needed to be addressed.
Namely, the way retailers are managed, and whether there could be rules in place that would make growing operations have to be a certain distance from homes, similar to the rules for livestock farms.
