Saugeen Shores Police say one of their cruisers was damaged in an incident this past weekend, when someone allegedly fled in a vehicle during a traffic stop.
Police say officers stopped a vehicle on Goderich Street in Port Elgin at about 8:10 p.m. Saturday night.
According to police, the driver of the car parked it and then got out to speak with officers.
While this was happening, police say the passenger then slid into the driver’s seat of the stopped vehicle, put it in reverse and collided with a parked police cruiser, damaging it.
Saugeen Shores Police allege the vehicle then sped off and ignored several stop signs.
Police say they did not pursue due to the risk to public safety.
Saugeen Shores Police say they were able to identify the person responsible and a warrant is being sought for his arrest on numerous charges, including flight from police and assault with a weapon.
