The municipality of Meaford is going to be doing fog testing in September and October.
It’s a part of their Inflow and Infiltration Study so they can determine both the location and the extent of groundwater entering the sanitary sewer system.
That water then gets treated at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The municipality hired Civica Water Management Solutions to complete the study.
The fog is non-toxic and blown through the sewer pipes to identify the locations where water inflow occurs.
During testing, residents may see fog coming from roof vents, building foundations, eavestroughs, and through manhole covers.
The fog shouldn’t enter homes as long as they are properly plumbed and vented.
The town does say that although the fog is non-toxic, it can cause irritation, and if it starts becoming noticeable in someone’s home, they should tell the crews immediately.
