Huronia West OPP are investigating the drowning of a swimmer in the Nottawasaga River.
Huronia West officers including the Marine Unit along with Wasaga Beach Fire Department and Simcoe County Paramedics located, recovered, and brought the victim to shore.
CPR was then performed on the swimmer.
The victim was transported to hospital by ambulance and later pronounced deceased.
The deceased was identified as a 42-year-old Richmond Hill resident.
The death is believed to be non-suspicious, and no foul play is suspected.
A post-mortem is scheduled to take place at the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto.
The OPP supports proactive steps that will help reduce provincial drowning deaths.

- know your limits and swimming abilities
- let someone know when and where you’re going for a swim
- test the waters with your feet, don’t dive right in
- don’t swim while under the influence of alcohol/drugs
