A new organization representing Huron County’s LGBTQ+ community is seeking board members.
Huron County PRIDE is hosting a town hall meeting August 23rd, looking for volunteers to help steer the organization.
Spokesperson Matt Hoy says Huron County PRIDE hopes to meet the needs of under-represented citizens of the area.
“There is an absolute hole in Huron County,” Hoy says.
“If you look across Southwestern Ontario, we are the only county that does not have a PRIDE event. Which makes a statement for ourselves about how welcoming and inviting we are.”
Huron County PRIDE is the third iteration of an LGBTQ+ organization for the county, after its predecessors PFLAG Goderich and Huron PRIDE dissolved.
Hoy says the goal of Huron County PRIDE is to provide a presence.
“It’s to give access to individuals, specifically young people, that don’t know where to go and what to do, and to have interaction with people of a like kind.”
Huron County PRIDE’s town hall is for anyone interested in learning more about the organization, or looking to become involved.
It runs August 23rd from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Maitland Valley Medical Centre, in Goderich.
