Construction on the new $69 million Markdale Hospital is over 50 per cent complete.
Grey County councillors recently heard an update from Grey Bruce Health Services Vice President and CFO John Kurvink on the construction of the hospital at their July 28th Committee of the Whole meeting.
He says substantial completion is expected by the summer of 2023 and it’s expected to open to patients by the end of 2023 or early 2024.
Kurvink told county councillors the 68,000 square foot hospital will open with seven beds, three exam rooms and a treatment room, a 24/7 emergency room, a cafe, a palliative care room, physiotherapy, procedures room (for endoscopy and colonoscopy) Diagnostic Imaging (x-ray, ultrasound), Ambulatory care (out-patient clinics including memory clinic, mental health and diabetes), spiritual care, the Centre Grey Hospital Foundation office and undesignated flex space on the ground floor for future expansion.
Kurvink says the goal is to one one day also have a CT scanner in the Markdale hospital.
So far, curb work, sidewalk work and paving is done. Sims and Kurvink say lower level steel studs are up, conduit and duct work are done. All roofing is complete and siding is starting shortly.
Eventually, furniture, fixtures and equipment will be purchased through community fundraising.
