A councillor from Wasaga Beach will be working without pay for 30 days after the integrity commissioner ruled his Facebook posts undermined negotiations for the sale of town-owned beachfront lands.
For the fourth time this term, Joe Belanger has been docked pay for violating the council’s code of conduct.
According to sources, this time is the harshest penalty yet. The previous three times, he had lost only 10 days’ pay each time.
At the town’s July 28th meeting, council had supported the integrity commissioners’ recommendation, but Belanger claimed that concerns about the project which he had raised on social media matched the concerns raised by members of the public.
