A new summer event is coming to downtown Meaford this weekend.
One of the organizers of the event Hope Farrow says Meaford Summerfest will be bringing a variety of activities to the downtown core and waterfront on July 30.
The free event will feature a poutine-off all weekend, and the doors of Meaford, which Farrow says are some old doors that have been painted over and are ready to be turned into art by artists from Meaford in a live display.
“We have the sidewalk sale that is going to be happening on Saturday as well and we also have a ton of vendors that are coming downtown for the sidewalk sale as well,” says Farrow.
Farrow adds they will have local restaurants come down to Meaford square to participate in the poutine-off, as well as a car show by the waterfront, and a dog parade at 10 a.m.
Farrow says this first ever event was brought about when her and the other organizers thought about what they would like to see in their community.
“We wanted to bring more to our community that we don’t have to go elsewhere to be able to enjoy out of town. I know that there are so many newcomers to our town and businesses, so we are just trying to collaborate with other businesses and put on the best summerfest that we can,” says Farrow.
Farrow says even though the downtown is relatively quiet compared to the other towns in the surrounding area, Meaford as a lot to offer.
“I think it is just so important for us to get ourselves on the map, create waves, and let people become aware of what this town has to offer, the beauty, the amazing people, the community support, and some of the amazing talent we have right here in Meaford,” says Farrow.
