Dufferin OPP are cracking down on loud and modified vehicles.
A release from the service says they’ve heard complaints from residents about those types of vehicles and are acting accordingly.
Authorities say they’re working to reduce the number of motor vehicles with modified or excessively loud exhaust systems on our roads.
They say when they stop those vehicles, the drivers could be charged under the Highway Traffic Act.
Specifically, the cat says a person in control of a vehicle shall not “make unreasonable noise, and a driver of any motor vehicle shall not permit any unreasonable amount of smoke to escape form their motor vehicle, nor shall such driver at any time cause the vehicle to make any unnecessary noise.”
Dufferin OPP says if its officers find vehicles that are “unlawfully modified” it will be reported to the Insurance Bureau of Canada with the potential of a policy suspension.
Officers are encouraging vehicle owners to repair modified exhaust systems and avoid using mechanisms to alter or increase their vehicle’s sound.
