The Municipality of Kincardine is looking to hear from residents on the removal of trees.
The municipality says as it takes removal very seriously, it also recognizes the community also has concerns surrounding these operations.
In order to develop a balanced approach to tree removal, the municipality has launched an online and paper survey to be filled out by June 22.
The municipality says the current Municipal Tree Policy was adopted last July in an effort to effectively preserve, enhance, conserve, and manage urban and rural tree canopy, to provide a better quality of life for local residents.
The municipality adds it supports proper stewardship techniques and believes they are needed to protect and enhance the life expectancy of municipal trees. The policy directs staff to plant two new trees for every one tree which need to be removed on municipal property.
This survey comes as the municipality does not have a by-law for tree removal on private property and are looking to gauge residents and eventually bring a report and policy back to council for consideration.
Director of Infrastructure and Development Adam Weishar says there is a delicate balance between conservation and development which must always be considered.
“We encourage the community to complete the survey to help the municipality develop a policy and by-law for the removal of trees on private property moving forward,” says Weishar.
The survey can be completed online here or by requesting a paper copy by emailing info@kincardine.ca.
