Huronia West OPP is concerned that motorists are not getting the message to NOT drink and drive.
Police say they have charged five separate drivers with impaired-driving related offences in the past five days.
The accused include a 30 year old man from Hillsdale, and four women aged 18, 26, 39 and 63 from Minesing, Barrie and Wasaga Beach.
-According to the OPP:
On April 27, 2022, just before 1:00 a.m., Huronia West OPP received a report of a possible impaired driver in the area of Caribou Trail in Wasaga Beach. Officers conducted a traffic stop and were led into an impaired operation investigation.
An 18-year-old, female from Wasaga Beach has been charged with:
· Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
· Take motor vehicle without consent
On April 26, 2022, just after 9:00 p.m., a concerned citizen contacted Huronia West OPP to report a possible impaired driver trying to leave a business parking lot in Wasaga Beach. Officers located the vehicle and were led into an impaired operation investigation.
David ENMAN, 30-year-old from Hillsdale has been charged with:
· Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
On April 25, 2022, just after 6:30 p.m., a concerned citizen contacted Huronia West OPP to report a possible impaired driver in the area of George Johnston Road in Springwater Township. The officer commenced a traffic stop with the involved driver and was led into an impaired operation investigation.
Catherine HARRINGTON, 63-year-old from Minesing has been charged with:
· Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
On April 24, 2022, just before 5:00 p.m., a Huronia West OPP officer conducted a traffic stop in the area of Mosley Street in Wasaga Beach. The officer was led into an impaired operation investigation.
Kristina PETERSON, 26-year-old from Wasaga Beach has been charged with:
· Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
On April 23, 2022, just after 4:00 p.m., a concerned citizen contacted Huronia West OPP to report a possible impaired driver in the area of Alpine Trail in Springwater Township. The officer commenced a traffic stop with the involved driver and was led into an impaired operation investigation.
Diana ILAVSKY, 39-year-old from Barrie has been charged with:
· Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
· Failure or refusal to comply with demand
The associated vehicles were impounded for seven days and the involved accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days.
The above accused persons are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood, in June, 2022, to answer to the charges.
Huronia West OPP, Detachment Commander, Inspector Leah Gilfoy would like to reiterate that “driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs is never acceptable and will not be tolerated. Be responsible, if you plan on consuming drugs or alcohol don’t drive. Further, thank you to our frontline police officers for their efforts and to our community members for their commitment to keeping our roads safe and free from impaired drivers. If you suspect someone is driving impaired, call 9-1-1”.
