A local environmental group is looking for Collingwood households to install microfiber filters on their washing machines.
Georgian Bay Forever is aiming to have 300 filters installed on machines feeding into Collingwood’s wastewater system. They’re about 80 households shy of that now. The filters trap micro plastics and keep them out of waterways.
The group will install the filters for free. Homeowners are asked to keep the filter contents so they can be tracked.
The eventual goal is to convince manufacturers to make the filters a standard part of new washing machines.
