The Province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate after a driver who failed to stop for police died in a stolen vehicle rollover.
Today at 2:33 am Huntsville OPP responded to a break and enter that was in progress at a commercial property in Huntsville.
Once they arrived, two males fled in a vehicle and failed to stop for police when directed to.
The suspects then traveled to Orillia where a tire deflation device was deployed which stopped the vehicle.
The suspects then fled on foot and a second vehicle was stolen.
That vehicle was then stopped by police and one male suspect was taken into custody.
A second male then stole another vehicle and fled the scene before becoming involved in a single-vehicle rollover.
Paramedics transported him to an Orillia area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The OPP has notified the Special Investigations Unit, which has invoked its mandate.
As a result, the OPP will not be able to provide any further information.
