Huron Perth Public Health is warning of multiple viruses circulating in the region, in addition to COVID-19.
Health officials say several respiratory illnesses are circulating, including:
- Influenza A
- Adenovirus
- Human metapneumovirus
- Enterovirus/rhinovirus
- Parainfluenza
Symptoms of the above viruses include:
- Fever
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Runny nose
- Muscle aches
Huron Perth health officials say there have also been cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) in young children, and an increase in Norovirus activity, which causes diarrhea and/or vomiting.
Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Miriam Klassen, says many COVID-19 public health measures helped to prevent the spread of other diseases, before being lifted in March.
“With most measures lifted and people having more contact with others, it is not surprising that we are seeing the return of other viruses. If you are sick, please stay home to avoid spreading illness to others,” Klassen says.
