Water levels in Huron County rivers and streams could be dangerous this weekend.
The Maitland Valley Conservation Authority has issued a water safety statement, saying water levels will likely be elevated for a prolonged period, possibly approaching or slightly exceeding bank-full conditions in some areas.
This is due to temperatures well above the freezing mark forecasted for the coming days, eliminating what is left of the snowpack throughout the Maitland and Nine Mile River watersheds.
Significant flooding is not expected, according to the MVCA.
Residents are reminded to use caution near all watercourses.
Slippery stream banks and extremely cold, fast-flowing water will combine to create hazardous conditions.
This message will remain in place until 4:00 pm on Monday March 21, 2022.
