The Owen Sound Attack extended their points-streak to 10 games, but missed an opportunity to pick up a win by squandering a third period lead.
Matthew Maggio scored at 1:18 of overtime to lift the Windsor Spitfires to a 6-5 comeback win over the Attack in Ontario Hockey League action at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre Wednesday night.
The Attack led 5-3 early in the third period, then Daniel D’Amico scored twice for Windsor to complete a hat trick and tie the game.
The tying goal from D’Amico came shorthanded with 6:35 remaining in regulation.
Colby Barlow, Logan LeSage, Sam Sedley, Cedrick Guindon and Taos Jordan scored for the Attack, which fell behind 1-0 15 seconds into the game after Will Cuylle knocked down a Nick Chenard clearing attempt and then shot it past the Owen Sound netminder.
Jordan’s goal for the Attack was his first career marker in the OHL.
Maggio finished with four points for Windsor, two goals and two assists.
Mathias Onuska made 21 saves in the win, while Nick Chenard stopped 26 taking the loss.
Windsor (32-16-3-3) outshot Owen Sound 32-26 while going 0 for 3 on the power play; the Attack finished 0 for 3 as well.
Owen Sound (26-23-4-3) returns to action on Saturday, playing the first of a back-to-back against the Erie Otters (23-26-2-2) at the Bayshore this weekend.
