In its first update from the weekend, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is reporting one new virus-related death and 157 new cases of COVID-19.
The latest death involved a man between 45-64 years of age from Simcoe County.
Seven local residents have died so far this month after contracting the novel coronavirus.
The health unit also reported three more hospitalizations due to the virus, for a total of 22, with six people currently being treated in the ICU, while there are currently 20 active outbreaks in the region.
To date, 723 cases have tested positive for the Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of concern, and an additional 2,249 cases are considered suspect Omicron (awaiting confirmatory testing).
As of today, all COVID-19 HealthSTATS pages from the SMDHU will be updated three days per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
