The Special Investigations Unit has found no reasonable grounds to believe that OPP officers committed a criminal offence in connection with a broken left orbital bone suffered by a 25-year-old man during his arrest in Tiny Township.
Police say the man reportedly assaulted his grandfather as well as the officers who attempted to arrest him in the early hours of November 10, 2021.
Officers used Conducted Energy Weapons and struck the man with a baton in the course of arresting him, who vigorously resisted being handcuffed.
While SIU Director Joseph Martino accepted that the man’s serious injury resulted from altercations with officers during his arrest, he found no reasonable grounds to believe that the injury was due to unlawful conduct by the officers involved.
