The cost for Collingwood’s water treatment plant expansion is going to be a lot higher than the initial estimate of $65 million. The latest projections are closer to $120 million. A staff report prepared for councillors says there have been changes and additions since the plant was first proposed a couple of years ago. They include enhanced disinfection, better protection from ice and high water levels, and extreme inflation in the construction industry.
Collingwood also provides water to The Town of Blue Mountains and The Town of New Tecumseth, so those two municipalities will see their share of costs go up as well.
The project is still in the design stage and won’t be complete for two to three years.
