Health Minister Christine Elliott is calling it a career.
Elliot released a statement this morning, announcing her decision to leave politics after serving the provincial government since 2018 as the Progressive Conservative MPP for Newmarket-Aurora.
She wrote, “I sought elected office in 2006 because of my strong desire to improve the quality of life of individuals with special needs, as well as mental health challenges. I saw gaps in care and that motivated me to action.”
Elliot said that she would not seek re-election in June, but will continue in her role as the minister of health until the spring.
Premier Doug Ford also released a statement, writing ” we are forever grateful for the sacrifices and contributions you and your family have made to our great province. You are and always will be a very close friend and an important member of our Progressive Conservative family.”
Another high-profile member of Doug Ford’s government stepped down earlier this year.
Rod Phillips, who was serving as minister of long-term care, also announced his resignation in January.
