Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has revoked the country’s Emergencies Act.
This afternoon he addressed the end of the trucker protest convoys and blockades and said the Act was the responsible and necessary tool that restored peace and order.
“We are confident that existing laws and bylaws are now sufficient to keep people safe,” he said. “Of course, we’ll continue to be there to support provincial and local authorities if and when needed.”
Trudeau says the act was a turning point in the illegal occupations.
This afternoon the Province of Ontario also lifted its State of Emergency Declaration.
The PM says the Federal government will always protect Canadians’ right to protest and freedoms of assembly.
He says a joint committee will now be struck to review the emergency declaration and in 60 days an investigation will be launched to look at how the country got there and why the act was required.
