As a result of all the rain, the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority has issued an advisory for the public and especially children to stay away from all area water bodies.
It says unstable ice cover, slippery banks, melting snow and run off will result in increases in stream flows and possible ice break up.
A large weather system has moved through the area dropping a moderate amount of rain across the watershed on top of a maturing snow pack. Rainfall amounts in the order of 10mm are expected overnight into Wednesday morning.
Melting snow and runoff will result in increases in stream flows and possible ice break up. No major flooding is anticipated, however local conditions may vary. At this time of year there is always the potential for localized flooding and ice jams.
The Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority continues to monitor river and stream conditions and will issue additional messages as conditions warrant. This statement will be in effect until Friday, February 24, 2022.
Warm temps & rain over the next 24 hrs will cause our snowpack to melt & increase flows in watercourses
