Owen Sound council has awarded a contract for mechanical equipment upgrades to the J.D. McArthur Arena at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
Council endorsed granting a $551,920 contract to Cimco Refrigeration for the project. The work will include replacing the existing mechanical refrigeration equipment, electrical updates to accommodate the new machines and bringing the refrigeration room up to current standards.
The contract accepted by council was the lowest of five compliant bids received.
According to a staff report, the upgrades will “vastly improve” the efficiency of the refrigeration plant at the Bayshore and improve the quality of the ice surface.
The city received approval last year for a $400,000 grant for the project through Ontario Trillium Foundation Community Building Fund.
Work on the ice plant upgrades at the Bayshore are scheduled to begin June 1, with an estimated completion date of Aug. 5.
