Erin O’Toole will no longer lead Canada’s Conservative Party after a secret ballot vote today by Conservative MP’s.
The leadership confidence test resulted in a 73-45 outcome.
A third of the caucus had signed a letter earlier this week to force the leadership review.
This afternoon O’Toole addressed his departure, saying Canada is in “a dire moment.”
“I believe that a strong modern and united Conservative party will help our country heal and help our country lead again,” he said. “I pledge my support and unwavering loyalty to our next leader and I urge everyone in our party to come together and do the same.”
A new interim leader will now be chosen.
Following that, it will be the third time the party members will have to decide on a new leader since 2017.
